You can also run a single purpose VM to support a specific process. VMs provide additional disaster recovery options by enabling failover and redundancy that could previously only be achieved through additional hardware.Ī VM provides an environment that is isolated from the rest of a system, so whatever is running inside a VM won’t interfere with anything else running on the host hardware.īecause VMs are isolated, they are a good option for testing new applications or setting up a production environment. This keeps you from needing to purchase additional physical resources, like hard drives or hard disks, as well as reducing the need for power, space, and cooling in the datacenter. By virtualizing your servers, you can place many virtual servers onto each physical server to improve hardware utilization. Most operating system and application deployments only use a small amount of the physical resources available when deployed to bare metal. Server consolidation is a top reason to use VMs. VirtualMachine vm azure.virtualMachines (). Add this code to the try block of the main method: Java. When you need to do anything with the VM, you need to get an instance of it. These VMs see themselves as self-reliant and efficient. Additionally, you may want to create code to automate repetitive or complex tasks. It shares the hardware of the host machine but runs as if being on a completely autonomous computer, unaware of the hypervisor and its role. In a full virtual machine model, the hypervisor completely isolates guest machines. Each operating system runs in the same way an operating system or application normally would on the host hardware, so the end user experience emulated within the VM is nearly identical to a real-time operating system experience running on a physical machine. Virtual Machine Model Or Full Virtualization. VMs allow multiple different operating systems to run simultaneously on a single computer-like a Linux® distro on a MacOS laptop. The hypervisor treats compute resources-like CPU, memory, and storage-as a pool of resources that can easily be relocated between existing guests or to new virtual machines. It can run in a window as a separate computing. The physical machines, equipped with a hypervisor such as Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), is called the host machine, host computer, host operating system, or simply host. The many VMs that use its resources are guest machines, guest computers, guest operating systems, or simply guests. A virtual machine is a computer file, typically called an image, that behaves like an actual computer. Software called a hypervisor separates the machine’s resources from the hardware and provisions them appropriately so they can be used by the VM. A virtual machine (VM) is a virtual environment that functions as a virtual computer system with its own CPU, memory, network interface, and storage, created on a physical hardware system (located off- or on-premises).

I was a little chagrined to see it now part of my Komplete Ultimate CE 14 upgrade but, had I waited for that, I wouldn't have been using it the last two years, right? There were enough other new libraries for me to justify the upgrade price (ouch!) plus another 60 expansion packs that I will never, ever look at. There are upgrade paths to CE from Standard and Ultimate but none from Select.įor a couple years, I owned Picked Nylon, another $99 stand alone that I use a lot. Strummed Acoustic 2 is also part of Komplete Ultimate Collectors Edition that I have. If considering Ultimate, the Select 13 package $49 still saves you $150. All of the stand alone libraries work in the free Kontakt Player and Komplete Kontrol. a $599 upgrade from Standard, a $999 upgrade from Komplete Select or, as you point out, $99 stand-alone. It is part of the $1,199 Komplete Ultimate. Strummed Acoustic 2 includes a 12 string and a different 6 than 1. Strummed Acoustic is part of Komplete Standard. Is this included in any of their packages? Strummed Acoustic 2, $99.00, seems to be a strong instrument. Here are the prices and upgrades at Sweetwater.įor those of us who own NI products, upgrade sales come now and then so this is a good way to get on that list.Īnother way is Komplete Start with 6GB of Library Fun and it's free:Īgain, Native Access will update some of these to the current versions including Kontakt Player to v.7 but here's the out-of-date list of what you get. If you really want Select 14, buy this first to save $50 as the upgrade is $99 from NI. Upgrade to Komplete 14 Standard (full Kontakt Included) is $399 for a total savings of (again) $150. The real reason I'm posting this is that there are upgrade paths available. Some of the libraries will be updated to current by Native Access (NA) (v.2.70 released today) making this an inexpensive entrance for those who've never tried these. It includes the free Komplete Kontrol plus Kontakt Player and not full Kontakt, of course. It's a $150 savings over the new Select 14. This morning, I saw that Komplete Select 13 is available for $49 from Guitar Center/Musicians Friend. For those wanting the least expensive upgrade from Kontakt Player. “Over the wall and into the car, you’re driving fast, you’re driving far, had to get away from the bricks and wire, heading for a funeral pyre. ‘Change For A Change’, ‘Schizophrenic’, ‘Shadows’ and ‘Number’s Up’ were sharp, intelligent, punk rock, driven by hard guitars and Stephenson’s dark, desperate words: This line-up recorded the demos that would become the Or’s Well In ‘84 EP, posthumously released in 1987 on Simon Coffey’s Onslaught Records.ĭead Image's posthumous EP Or’s Well In ‘84, released in 1987 on Simon Coffey's Onslaught label The Henchmen and Dead Image at SPAM, Symonds Street, Auckland, October 1983Įarly in 1984, Kevin Taylor from The Plastic Pegs joined on drums and Tony Chandler from North Shore punks Public Enemy was added on bass after Chris Boulter was ejected. They lived just across the bridge from the venue in Grafton and played there often on Punk Sundays. Shortly afterwards, MacFarlane peeled, Boulter switched to bass and new guitarist Mathew Ahern (from Pukekohe and formerly of punk band Local Chaos) joined.ĭead Image finally found firm ground and had a good run of shows in late 1983 with The Henchmen, playing Mainstreet, Windsor Castle, and SPAM, the short-lived musicians cooperative venue in upper Symonds Street. The divisive Prime Minister Rob Muldoon was still in power, the police were harsh judges where punks were concerned, and mid-year (the weekend ‘Finger’ was recorded), a grey battleship, the USS Texas, sat in Auckland harbour, a not-so-subtle reminder that sabre rattling US President Ronald Reagan was in the White House, where his brinksmanship made nuclear death seem at times only a finger away. Billed as Dead Image, Vicious Circle sounded out of place amongst the 1960s debris and traditional peacenik company on the tape, but in many ways, their dark, succinct punk rock nihilism got closest to the sense of threat that hung over New Zealand in those days. In August 1983, Vicious Circle returned to the studio again to record ‘One Finger From Death’ for Last Laugh Studios’ Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) fundraiser, Celebration. The first two later appeared on a double-sided reissue single in 1998, shared with The Plunket Boys. Vicious Circle entered Progressive Studios in April 1983 and recorded three tracks – ‘Mainstreet’, ‘Ultraviolence’, and ‘Ode To Brezhnev’. Singer Allen Stephenson and drummer Mac MacDonald had been Plunket Boys, and the entire group had been in First Offence. Guitarist Chris Boulter and bassist John MacFarlane had a past in The Mormons, The Bastards and The No-Ones. While many of the groups rose and fell in the western suburbs, Vicious Circle were already survivors of previous punk acts. Too many fights and too many police, and when the police came, they just saw punks. The Auckland punk scene had become the stereotype it had always courted – violent, nihilistic and self-destructive. By the time hall diehards Vicious Circle (Allen “Nobby” Stephenson on vocals and guitar, John MacFarlane on bass, Chris Boulter on guitar and Mac MacDonald on drums) played the Mount Roskill Memorial Hall in mid-1983, the hall scene was an urban nightmare. If it wasn’t the bootboys, it was the over-zealous team policing units. The hall scene thrived for a while, until the violence they were trying to avoid began walking through the doors. Weekend punk dances at West Auckland halls pulled big crowds to see a swelling number of punk bands from the west including The Dum Dum Boys and Famous Five, and later in 19, The Henchmen, The Mormons, The Orphans, The Executioners, The Plunket Boys, Sick Dogs and Vicious Circle. Pushed out of inner city Auckland by a lack of venues and the hard shadow of Auckland’s bootboys, by the early 1980s punk rock was firmly ensconced in the suburban heartland of West Auckland. High School: Las Cruces High School (NM) 1988 Instead of a separate pouch where food collects, the platypus’ esophagus is directly connected to its intestine. How do platypus eat without a stomach?Ī platypus doesn’t really have a stomach. Southern koalas have much thicker fur and can weigh twice as much as their northern relatives. Right now the only place to see koalas in the UK is Edinburgh Zoo, which has three Queensland koalas, the smaller relative of southern koalas. Compare kiwis in Frankfurt zoo, which are not bred because there is no demand for them. In contrast to CGSwans, I think real reason is that platypus are expensive to keep for their size (eat thousands of earthworms and similar invertebrates) and not interesting for general public, being nocturnal, small, brown etc. Did an assignment on them last year and there are very few in captivity (and they’ve proven almost impossible to successfully breed). Platypus in the UK (pet, collection or zoo) doesn’t exist (as far as I know). If its appearance alone somehow fails to impress, the male of the species is also one of the world’s few venomous mammals!Īdvertisement Is it legal to own a platypus in England? The platypus is a duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed, egg-laying aquatic creature native to Australia. The animal is best described as a hodgepodge of more familiar species: the duck (bill and webbed feet), beaver (tail), and otter (body and fur). They were once hunted for their fur – pelts are both warm and waterproof. It’s likely that foxes, dingoes and wild dogs kill Platypuses that venture on land. Platypuses are eaten by snakes, water rats, birds of prey and occasionally crocodiles. Just ten minutes from Forrest, the lake was formed when the valley was flooded more than 50 years ago. Possibly the best location to see a platypus is Lake Elizabeth in the Great Otway National Park. This fur ranges in colour from grey to dark brown. Under their long, coarse outer hair is a fine, dense underfur which is woolly in texture. Platypuses are dark brown on their backs and generally light brown on their bellies. With eyes and ears closed, receptors in the bill can detect electrical currents in the water and can help to find prey. The platypus, usually active at dawn and dusk, relies on its sensitive bill to find food. Platypus eat small water animals such as insect larvae, freshwater shrimps, and crayfish. … The platypus is endemic to eastern Australian. Today, visitors can pet and feed the aquatic animals. The IUCN lists the platypus on its Red List as “Near Threatened” as assessed in 2016, when it was estimated that numbers had reduced by about 30 percent on average since European settlement. After Aladdin and Badr al-Budur kill the evil magician (through a combination of seduction, poison, and stabbing), they begin to live happily ever after in China, until the dead man’s more powerful brother comes to China to get revenge.Naomi Scott is a multi-talented actor, singer and songwriter. Like any good movie, the story of Aladdin does have a part two-of sorts. After the pair are wed, the wishes continue, and more fabulous treasures and wealth are accrued. There are way more than three wishes.Īfter Badr al-Budur is no longer married, Aladdin begins to woo her in earnest, using multiple wishes from the genie to dazzle her and her father with gold, jewels, a splendid palace, servants, soldiers and fine horses. The sultan accepts his gifts, but marries his daughter to the vizier’s son anyway.Īladdin uses his genie to kidnap the groom and hold him in a cold, dark cell for two nights until the young man begs to have the marriage annulled, and the sultan complies. The princess is already betrothed when Aladdin meets her.Īfter glimpsing the unveiled face of the sultan’s daughter, called Badr al-Budur (not Jasmine) in the story, Aladdin pursues her by lavishing presents on her father. The third is the vizier’s son, rival to Aladdin’s affections for the princess. The second is the magician’s more evil brother. The first is an evil magician from Africa who poses as Aladdin’s long-lost uncle to trick the boy into retrieving the lamp. There are three bad guys.ĭisney’s Aladdin faces off against the evil vizier Jafar, but in the original text, there are three villains. Both spirits come to Aladdin’s aid at different points in the story, granting him wishes and helping him out of tight spots. One inhabits a magical lamp, and another a magical ring. There are not one, but two magical genies.Īladdin employs two powerful genies who come to his aid in The Arabian Nights. His father dies because his son refuses to learn a trade. In Richard Burton’s telling, the “hero” is shallow, lazy, greedy, and easily taken in by displays of wealth. In Disney’s telling of the story, Aladdin is clever, resourceful, and loyal, but underestimated because he is poor. Aladdin’s mother is the one who first rubs the lamp and releases the genie. His father, a tailor, is dead, but his mother, a poor widow, still lives. Unlike the Disney films, Aladdin isn’t an orphaned "street rat" in The Arabian Nights. The setting and the characters’ ethnicity begins to shift west to Arabia and the Middle East when the story is told on the big screen in the early 20th century. In the both Galland’s text and Richard Burton’s popular 1885 English translation, Aladdin lives “in a city of the cities in China.” Illustrations of the tales from the Victorian era depict the story and its characters as Chinese. Galland added several new stories told to him by a Syrian named Ḥanna Diyab from Aleppo “Aladdin and the Magical Lamp” was one of them. In 1712, French scholar Antoine Galland translated an Arabic version of the tales into French. The stories circulated for centuries, with new folk tales and renditions being added to the mix over the years. In 947 Arab historian Al-Masudi, for example, describes a large collection of a thousand tales from all over the ancient world that he calls the Persian Hazar afsana (A Thousand Stories). The Arabian Nights aren’t just from Arabia.ĭating back as far as the 10th century A.D., these tales have origins in North African, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Indian, and East Asian cultures. Some of the most famous tales are not only of Aladdin but also Sinbad the Sailor and Ali Baba. Night after night, cliffhangers compel the curious king to delay Scherherazade’s death to find out what happens next. To save her life, she spins a story every night (“Aladdin” is one of many) for her husband, leaves out the ending, but promises to finish it later. The heroine, Scherherazade, is married to a murderous king, who kills his new wives one day after wedding them. Aladdin is only one of 1,001 tales.Īladdin is part of a centuries-old stories-within-a-story called The Thousand and One Nights (also called The Arabian Nights). But how much does the big screen Aladdin resemble its source material? (The Walt Disney Company is majority owner of National Geographic Partners.) 1. The movie became a classic, spawning a Broadway musical and a live-action remake that hits theaters this weekend. In 1992, Disney’s animated Aladdin hit the big screen, and audiences fell in love with the adventures of an orphan-the “Diamond in the Rough”-who crossed paths with a flying carpet, a powerful genie, and an independent princess. Throughout the game, Juliet can also collect lollipops which allow her to recover health. As the game progresses, Juliet will also receive the Chainsaw Dash, which allows her to charge with her chainsaw and fly off-ramps, and the Chainsaw Blaster, a long-range weapon used for blasting enemies and obstacles. Sparkle Hunting is achieved when Juliet kills three or more zombies simultaneously or in quick succession and rewards platinum medals that can be spent on other goodies such as unlockable costumes, music, and artwork. These medals can be spent at Chop2Shop.zom stores found throughout each level where Juliet can purchase new moves and combos, as well as items that can increase her stats. Gold medals can be earned by defeating zombies, smashing objects, and rescuing classmates. Zombies can be beaten into a groggy state, during which they can instantly be killed with a chainsaw attack. Juliet can use melee attacks, dodges and high and low attacks with her chainsaw. Lollipop Chainsaw is a hack-and-slash video game in which players play as Juliet as she fights through hordes of zombies. In July 2022, Kadokawa Games successor Dragami Games announced a remake titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP set to launch sometime in 2024. It features Juliet Starling (voiced by Tara Strong in English and by both Eri Kitamura in the PlayStation 3 version and Yoko Hikasa in the Xbox version in Japanese), a cheerleader zombie hunter fighting zombies in a fictional California high school. Interactive Entertainment internationally in 2012. A collaboration between game designer Goichi Suda (also known by his nickname Suda51) and filmmaker James Gunn, it was released by Kadokawa Games in Japan and Warner Bros. Some also compared her new look to having her model to being "facetuned", which is typically used for editing Instagram photos and can sometimes make facial features lose texture and look unnaturally smooth.Lollipop Chainsaw is a 2012 action-adventure hack-and-slash video game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, some users took issue with the new model, noting it looks a bit worse and she even looks paler in comparison, losing any bit of color that she originally had. The company released an image to celebrate the new year and it included a picture of Juliet's updated model. With the game set to release later this year, we got a small glimpse at what the remake will look like thanks to Dragami Games' Twitter page. Given we have had remakes for cult-classics, certified bangers, and everything in between, it seems only fair this would also get the remake treatment. Nevertheless, it was confirmed last year that Lollipop Chainsaw would receive a remake on modern platforms. It received pretty average reviews, but the tone and aesthetic of the game was heavily praised. It's a very, very silly game courtesy of Suda51 and Guardians of the Galaxy director/DC Studios head James Gunn, but it wasn't a huge hit. For those that aren't familiar, Lollipop Chainsaw is a 2012 hack-and-slash game that was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 and follows a high school cheerleader as she cuts down zombies with her boyfriend's severed (but living) head hanging from her waist. We've received the first, tiny glimpse at the upcoming remake of Lollipop Chainsaw. |
